Vanguard: World's Toilet Crisis
According the U.S. State Department, the World Health Organization, and UNICEF, the world's greatest infectious killer is not malaria, AIDS, or TB but poop. An estimated 2.6 billion people, about 40% of the world's population, including 1 billion children, have no access to toilets of any kind and must practice open defecation. The result is a continual pandemic of intestinal afflictions that kill 2 million people a year.

Russell Blackford at Embiggen Books
Russell is an author, philosopher and literary critic. He is editor-in-chief of The Journal of Evolution and Technology, and co-editor (with Udo Schuklenk) of '50 Voices of Disbelief:Why We Are Atheists'. He blogs at Metamagician and the Hellfire Club, where he can be regularly engaged.
Russell’s talk focuses on why it is necessary to critique belief systems if we are to maintain the health of a secular society. Indeed some time is given to the notion that secularism has being given only lip-service recently under the current leadership of Kevin Rudd, following in the anti-secular footsteps of John Howard. He puts the continuing culture wars into an historical perspective delving deep into religious moralism and intolerance through the ages. He argues, now is a good time for atheists and others who are sceptical about religion’s claims to stand up publicly and express their disbelief.

Afghanistan - America's Longest War
The Afghanistan War is now the longest war in U.S. history. If an end-date isn't set, we could be there forever. We want a responsible withdrawal that's complete no later than December 2011.
As Pentagon Papers whistle-blower Daniel Ellsberg says in our new video, "It was always a bad year to get out of Vietnam." We need to make sure the same doesn't happen with Afghanistan.

Inside Kandahar's Secret School for Girls
The Taliban has waged a violent campaign against girls who go to schools in their Afghan strongholds. A series of attacks against schools and female students have driven many girls to go underground to receive an education.
In one attack in Kandahar in 2008, around 15 girls and teachers were sprayed with acidby men on motorbikes. During Taliban rule, from 1996-2001, girls were banned from attending school. In parts of southern and eastern Afghanistan, particularly in Taliban strongholds, schools for girls still remain closed. But the Taliban has denied any involvement in the recent spate of suspected attacks, and has condemned the targeting of school girls. The Afghan government, however, has blamed the suspected attacks on fighters opposed to female education.

Mark Haines Makes Sexist Comment On CNBC
In a discussion of the blown call during Wednesday night's almost-perfect-game, Burnett argued that the umpire and pitcher's "graciousness" were so "beautiful" that it made for a "more memorable moment" than a perfect game would have.
"See, this is why women aren't in charge of sports," Haines shot back.
